In previous years I’ve had some pretty good, original costumes, such as Indiana Jones and Elton John (complete with feather boa, sparkle shoes, etc).

This year I have decided I want to do something from the mid-90s (I find myself nostalgic for that time period and it’s an era I’ve never done)

Here’s the requirements I have:

1. It has to be something easily recognizable but something nobody else at my Halloween parties will be.
2. It has to be something that will not only make me stand out, but also look appealing to the opposite gender (Elton probably was not but I was younger then)
3. I want it to be detail oriented. I want to be able to have little things that make people go "Wow.. you really spent some time on this"
4. I want to be able to move around. Like I said, I’ll probably be party hopping so it can’t be anything bulky, anything I’d have trouble dancing in, and anything with two many props (1 or 2 max such as my whip and camel back when I was Indiana Jones)
5. The person can’t have blond hair because I don’t and I don’t want to wear a wig or dye it.

Some ideas I’ve been toying with
Butthead- I don’t want a Beavis and it’s kind of simplistic
Hair Metal Band Member- Could work but more 80s than 90s and I did that last year
Something from Old School Nickelodeon (Don’t know what yet)
Austin Powers- The humor is 90s but he’s really from the 60s and I don’t want to act like Austin Powers all night.

If anyone has any ideas or places for me to go I’d appreciate it a lot.

I have it because I bought it for halloween last year (, gotta love thrift stores) so it’s not like I’d be buying the one here, it’s just this one has good pictures of the outfit, and I have no camera even if I could figure out how to upload images onto the computer

I think it looks kinda chinese style (even though anime/manga is japanese, I’m expecting people to be wearing Avatar costumes, so ‘chinese’ isn’t too bad)

Sitting here on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and watching "The Warriors" Director’s cut…one of my fave’s…and wondering how authentic this movie is. I do realize, and have studied, the 60s and 70s gangs quite a bit but the makeup and scarlet shirts/ties…essentially the costumes…surprised me. Is this something that went on here in the city back then? Thanks!

Jon, you hit the proverbial ‘nail on the head’. You essentially echoed what was stated in Wiki and, although I rarely give Wiki props for accuracy, the symbolism and relation to the Grecian warriors and their trials and tribulations being outnumbered and 1000 miles from "home" per se, was on the mark. Or do you just LOVE IT…the way Gilman loves it…and keeps perpetuating this dumb concept of using select audience members to dance for contest promotions, like trained MONKEYS before an organ grinder.

It started with a "Go-Go" theme. Retro ’60s. Then when that got worn out, they went with the warmer temps of summer and went with "Sun-Glo" or "Glo-Go". Whatever. Now in winter, it’s "Sno-Go", incorporating a Yeti costume for some poor helpless sap, dumb enough to put this hairy over-suit on to boogie around to 60’s-esque music behind sillouette screen, then to be pushed agressively out from behing the screen by a dancing volunteer Go-Go, then to do something before the audience and the show hosts, to try to impress.

RARELY do these poor Yeti dupes do ANYTHING that is impressive, and most often merely invite a critical comment from Regis…Which I guess is the point.

But Gilmans thinks it’s impressive.

They can’t dance. What do you think?

okay i waw bored and wanted to think about my future halloween costumes please dont tell me its early because i need to make it and it takes a lot of time okay so i want to be like a girl in the candyman video whichever christina aguelria wore but were would i find that costume or what would i called myself if someone asked pin up girl or 60s girl?

I’m trying to think of an actress who is older, probably in her 60s now. She’s portrayed as kind of ditsy, blond, has had a lot of cosmetic surgery. I can think of her in a ‘Chiquita banana’ type costume. Probably the most recent thing she’s done in commercials. I want to say her name is like, Chi Chi, or something along those ridiculous lines. Sounds familiar anyone?!

so next week is homecoming and we have different spirit days all week. monday is dress for success, tuesday costume day, wednsday kickin it old school, thursday is welcome to the jungle, and friday is blue & gold day (my schools colors). and i have NO idea what to do, because id luv to do all the days if possible. dress for success is where u dress like a ceo or a business person, kickin it old school is dressing like the ’60s or ’70s etc. welcome to the jungle is camo & animal prints, and blue + gold & costume are pretty self explainitory.

it is a play set in the 1950/60s i’m not sure which. that would also be good to know.

it is only a school production so we don’t ned that complicated costumes but reasonable ones.

we also need to think of a way of showing how i (and mickey) change from 7 years old at the beginning to 30 years at the end .. so basic costumes changes ( play only 35 minutes – cut version) we could do would be useful thank you

Lol I don’t get all decked out in a formal dress or anything, even though I do wear summer dresses like from Abercrombie and UO, Forever21 to school I like to dance so thats a bad idea lmaoo. But I always have to wear a great fitted pair of jeans, does not have to be skinny unless I’m wearing a flowy top but preferrably dark wash. And flats usually cuz its a dance you have to look hot! -Dark wash skinny jeans, tight bright purple cami&&white flats. with this cute silver peace sign necklace and other jewelry. My hair would be all curly and wavy for a change, since its usually straightened. My makeup would be cute.

I’m just having trouble finding the "hairspray" 60s online. When i look up the 60’s all i can find is stuff abut hippies.

Particularly I’m looking for things that the boys would’ve worn, not the suits and such for the Corny Collins show, but more everyday stuff.

I am trying to make my own Halloween costume this year based after different eras (1920s, 60s, etc.). I have a very pretty polka dot skirt that I think might work, but I’m not sure which era polka dots were popular in. Can anyone offer any advice or suggestions? Thanks
