I don’t know what to be for Halloween this year, and it is a little early, but I just want to get some ideas. I am 13 and in eighth grade, so nothing too big, preferably a homemade costume rather one from Party City. My friends and I were thinking of being something together, such as the Spice Girls, but we decided to just be something on our own. I’ve already done the whole witches deal, and I’ve been a 50s & 80s girl before. I just want to be something simple but cute. My friend invited me to a oldies dance coming up BUT I don’t know what to wear! Could you help me and find some great outfits for this dance. The outfit could be from the 80s, 50s, or any decade. For prom this year, i’m going for the 1940’s-1950’s starlet look, however, because this is prom I do not want it to look like a costume. My hair is pretty long, ( mid back). I’m ALL about vintage and i love anything retro or 50s like 50s pinup girls and sundresses and ROCKABILLY music i don’t want to be to fancy or anything but i really want to show peaple my style on the first day beacuse its really me and i dont want to be stared at or anything like that. but i dont care to much about what people think but its pretty rare that anyone is going to be wearing any of this to school except for like a costume party. its like those dresses that you wear the saddle shoes, and the dress with the petticoat and the poodle, AND the scarf but without all of that more or less rockabilly with a classy vintage twist. well my hair is a dirty blond with pink bangs and purple tips and its in a 50s pinup victory rolls NOT a finger wave! and they r called swing dresses and i have one with white polka dots and a red petticoat and its a 50s swing retro housewife dress but i woodnt b wearing saddle shoes i wood b wearing red wedges with black polka dots beacuse the petticoat is red
okayy thanks to all of u who answered with my style in mind. lemme break it down for u its a 50s swing dress its not a poodle skirt or anything no scarf no saddle shoes no red lipstick and no bowling club its just a 50s swing dress red petticoat and some wedges with victory rolls and no im not new im in the 8th grade goin to highschool soon and i do have lots of friends not trying to boast but everyone likes me frm my middle school im not a mean girl in fact ive been told i was the kindest hearted girl but i laugh at mean people beacuse its sooo funny it really doesnt bother me altho i kno there r some demons in highschool well if i where the dress without the petticoat and some flats and regular hair wood that b okay?? b/c i dnt wanna stick out like a sore thumb cuz i understand that mite b a bit much but thats my style and im the boldest person i know. i cood bring out the wedges later and the hair and mix it up a bit…totally understand yea ima go with not overdoing it thnkx : D

For a costume I need to buy a bathing suit from around the early 90s.. and all that I can seem to find online are either "vintage" (i.e. 30s-50s) or 80s style. Does anyone know where I can find 90s style bathing suits???

I know it’s a month away from Halloween but where I live the best Halloween costumes go fast and I want to have my money saved and ready to buy a costume since costumes at Spencer’s goes up as soon as October pops up. I’m 16 going on 17 and I want to have some sex appeal for my costume but not too much where I look like a teen prostitute. Also it’s for my school Halloween dance.

P.S. We don’t have a dress code but I’m pretty sure there has to be a limit somewhere but most of the time girls show up in really sexy costumes.

P.S.S. I know that it’s a Playboy costume and that might not be too good but I think the costume considering that it’s Playboy is pretty tame plus I think it has a bit of cuteness to me. But I just wanted to know a second opinion.
You don’t have to be rude okay. Don’t be a bitch gosh. I was just asking. And I know it’s Playboy and normally I wouldn’t buy a Playboy (have nothing against the brand though either). I just came across the costume and it caught my attention cuz I know no other girl will be a ’50s girl. Most of them are cops, maids, fairies, etc.

for my talent, I’m going to sing, but, I’m having a problem on finding a song.
I figured I would do a song that kind of goes with the theme of the pageant, but, I have no clue what would really go with that.
I was thinking something from a musical, but I’m not really sure.

So, does anyone know what a good song would be to sing for the talent portion of the pageant?
and, could you kind of suggest an outfit to wear while singing?
to fit the song.

btw, the talent portion can only be 90 seconds (1:30) long.

you might have heard of the musical (or movie) ‘little shop of horrors", it is based in the 50s and i am a playing a character, a ronette (which were three girls that narrated and looked like the "Ronettes" (singers) or the "Supremes" and also played 3 teenagers that lived on the street, dropped out of school in year five etc.)
i have already got all of the glamorous costumes but no the "street-wear", and i was hoping that someone might have some tips for me on how to do my hair (needs to match both characters) and i have very long thick layered hair, i know that would make a difference. maybe an idea on what the fashion was in america in the 1950s when you lived on the streets?
also, i know that fringes were big in the 50s and i was wondering if anyone knew if and where i could get a fake fringe? (i live in melb., australia) .

For my treble choir performance we are doing a 50s theme… it seems like EVERY is going to be wearing a poodle skirt, but I want to be unique… any ideas? It has to be semi-formal. (ex. we’re not allowed to wear flip flops or tennis shoes… high heels only.)

My son & my niece are 4 days apart in age. While they are still too young to protest (lol) my sister & I dress them alike for Halloween. Their first Halloween, they were Mickey & Minnie Mouse, last year, they were Peter Pan & Tinkerbell. Does anyone have any cute "couple" ideas for this year? We were thinking 50s Sock Hop, but while it is cute for a girl, it is not much of a costume for a boy. I live in the South so the weather will likely be warm.

1) i have a black poodle skirt, white blouse, and white button sweater tied overtop. my penny loafers are black. i only have a pink hairbow i’m gonna wear on my ponytail, how can i add more splashes of more pink? haloween dressup day is tomorrow for us…

2) would two pigtails also be okay? i know ‘the look’ in the 50s was a pony, but i want pigtails. is this appropriate?

All my accessories are red to pull out the color in the dress, except for my glasses which are blue. I’ve been trying to figure how to do my hair and makeup though. I’m leaning towards a classic pinup look, but I’m concerned it will look too much like a costume. How can I rock a 50s vintage look without being too over the top?
