I love vintage style but I need help with the 40s style hair. Does anyone know any tutorials or websites that show you step by step how to do it. Oh, and I have hair up to my shoulders.
Here are some photos of what I mean:

Oh, I have tried youtube, searched it from bottom to top but couldn’t find any
Way back in the day, like 30 years ago, the ending credits roll used to be very short and listed only the really important people behind the movie, which usually resulted in a credits roll being no longer than a minute or two. But now, it’s very common for the credits roll to just go on and on and on listing everybody and their mother! One movie I will NEVER forget is Mortal Kombat (1995) and its amazing 10 minute credit roll! I have never seen a movie with such a long list and I hope I never see another. But I hope you are starting to see my point. Nobody actually reads all those credits so what is the point? Why can’t it be nice and concise listings with the producers, directors, cast, and writers, and maybe costume and set design, and visual effects. Everything else is just a waste of time and space, right? Maybe would should go back to how they did things in the 50s and 40s with no more than a single screen of credits which lasted like 10 seconds. Yeah, that would be sweet.
Here’s a specific example from "The Merry Gentleman"

Why on Earth is catering listed in the credits?! What did they have to do with the completion of the movie? They were not directly involved, I’m sure, so what’s up with the listing? WTF?!
I swear I’m not crazy. I just find it very annoying having to forward through gobs of credits when I want to find the music composer or the year of a film. And I’m not the only one who has noticed:

Like from the 40s and 50s.
I’m going to a costume party. I just need ideas!
Can anyone give me any tips in dressing in 1920s-40s fashion for school. Of course, I don’t want to go in a costume, but I want to give off a vintage vibe. Any hairstyle, make-up, and fashion ideas would be fabulous! I am obsessed with old-time style! Thanks
Im wearing a lycra spandex unitard for a baselayer of my halloween costume as a superhero. The weather where i am supposed to be is in the 30s and 40s. It is currently being shipped to me so obviously i cant figure this one out for myself till it comes later this week, but i wanted to know if i will be warm wearing it.
for the costume i have a cape, boots and gloves.

My friend and I are going to a Halloween party as 40s style sailorettes.
She is wearing a white navy hat, and I think I got her hairstyle down (But opinions or examples are still wanted if you want have them – Her hair is shoulder length extremely layers cranberry/brown colors hair).
But I plan on wearing a Garrison Cap, (this is the one I have: http://www.armynavydeals.com/asp/products_details.asp?SKU=USCGGCW&ST=2 ) I have several reference pictures that I have found online, but I thought I should ask the Trusty Yahoo! crew for help. How should I do my hair? Pictures if you can find them would be great. If not, I can figure out anything. I have hairstyling talent, so nothing is too hard for me – but I only have about four hours from when I have college to when the party begins. I have very long thick and straight dirty blond hair, goes till about mid back. And it’s a straight cut (No bangs), but the last inch of my hair has layers. Also hair product names if you got them in which I might want or need. Thanks!
I don’t want it to be now-a-days hair, or Pussycat Doll (I am referring to the Vegas show) oriented. I want it pretty authentic 40s.
Thank you nella, that is a good reference didn’t think about Christina.
at my school we have a spirit week and each year we hav a theme and our theme this year is the "Showtime Sophomores" (i kno it sucks rite??) but im tryin 2 come up wit wat 2 wear…
i could be an actress or sum10 but i really dnt kno any actresses from the 20s-40s n we r doin old movies 2 but i really dnt kno any old movies either
the class leaders said that it’ll b an Old Hollywood theme ,like the 20’s- 40’s n it could be a character from an old movie or an actress from that time period..
so any ideas?????????
Hi, I’ve got a big Spring chorus concert and it’s got a broadway theme! I’ve got to have a costume w/ a broadway theme to it!
I’m thinking of just doing a nice suit like they did in the 40s cause we’re doing some musical w/ the song "Standin’ on the Corner"!
Nothing to flashy since I’m not a soloist (Doesn’t mean I’m a bad singer! that’s to you dad!). But something people can guess.
P.S. I’m a guy
Here are some of the musicals we’re singing songs from:
Jesus Christ Superstar
Mame
My Fair Lady
Fiddler On the Roof
Aquarius
Cats
Oklahoma
Grease
Phantom of the Opera
Jersey Boys
Rent
Company
Annie
Sweeney Todd
Les Miserables
Mama Mia!!!
Hairspray
Footloose
By the way you’re reading the details, you’d think I’m gay, but I’m not, trust me. And besides, the concert is part of my grade. Chorus is a class w/ me. The all black doesn’t sound too bad actually! If only I can find a musical w/ that.
Why is everyone makin’ fun of me!?
I gave no one thumbs downs!
I’m a 23 year old actress who needs to make myself look like I’m in my 40s for a role. I’ll be playing a suburban mom, and I want to find some reading glasses that have no prescription (I don’t wear glasses, and I’ll be wearing these all day, almost every day) to help make me look older. Anyone know where I can get these? The costume store ones I’ve found are too cheesy looking. This needs to be realistic.
There are costumes themed for the 20s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s on various websites, but why no 30s and 40s themed ones? Are there any such ideas that any of you can think of?
If I were to want to wear an outfit for a dance on a religious theme, is it possible to make a dress using the idea of Eve who wore Fig Leaves. ..
Is there a way to actually make such a dress that would look good at a dance? Considering that I’m in my 40s, I definitely want to leave what’s underneath the costume to the imagination.
Any suggestions on how to make such an outfit?
Ok, so a friend of a friend is having a Fabulous 40s birthday party, and everyone is dressing up. I had a fairly cool costume planned, with a fedora, a black and white tweed patterned skirt and a nice white button-up shirt, etc., but someone just told me it’s more 20s than 40s. I was imagining something a bit gangster-ish.
So does this sound 20s or 40s?
If it is more 20s than 40s, what are some other options for my costume for the party?
